About Us

In 1972 eight mayors were elected through the country. In Alabama A.J.  Cooper was elected mayor of Prichard, Al, a city of 45,000 people making  him  the first African American in the state of Alabama to accomplish  this goal since reconstruction. That same year, Johnny Ford also became  the mayor of Tuskegee, Alabama, a historic Alabama town that is well  known for Tuskegee University and the Tuskegee Airmen among other things. These occurrences marked the beginning of the modern era of the election of black mayors to cities through the state of Alabama .

The Alabama Conference of Black Mayors is actively involved in many worthwhile and needed projects for enhancing   Alabama's communities. We provide technical assistance to smaller  municipalities which is the conference speciality. We are an unique  organization  for elected officials. The Alabama Conference of Black  Mayors has had a gala time networking, providing leadership and  information to ensure your success. We understand the importance of  networking and business people making important contacts and conduct a  fair share of business at social events, which is set aside as time to  talk with people in a relaxed forum. It has been a pleasure for us to  provide these services.

The  Alabama Confernce of Black Mayors is not exclusively for mayors. We are  inclusive and invite former Mayors and Councilmembers throughout   Alabma to become members of the Conference. The Alabama Conference has dedicated,  professionals who find strength in great ideas. The ACBM conducts  seminars for ACBM members, quarterly and annual conferences, and we  deliver information that can change the future of cities in the State of  Alabama.
